As a professional organizer and designer, I spend a lot of time scouring the internet. I love using Pinterest and blogs, for cool new ideas and revolutionary insights, but lately it’s taken a lot to really surprise me. I see a lot of the same ideas over and over again and it’s rare for me to find a truly breakthrough idea. That was until I heard about a company called 19 Queens Gate, who make beautiful, high quality pillows out of artwork made by kids. Seriously, I died. I loved this idea. “I cant wait to go home and write a blog post about this,” I said to my friend Eve. “I can’t tell you how often people ask the question, what in gods name do I do with all my kids art?” When I saw the beautiful pillows, I really felt inspired. Is this gorgeous or what?

If your kids are prolific creators, you too end up with piles upon piles of art. Most of it ends up unorganized, unframed, and unappreciated. Sure you can scan and hang kids art. There are a million pinterest posts about this, but having a beautiful pillow is lovely, unique and special.  It also makes for a lasting keepsake, that you can appreciate again and again. The thing I love the most (in addition to buying American made), is that these pillows make great gifts. Grandma will love this one of a kind keepsake that has a functional purpose as well. Look how cute the packing is.

What else is there to love? How about the family owned company behind the cool concept? Nancy Williams and Ginger Sherak are the Mother, daughter team behind 19 Queens Gate, and we love to encourage “make it happen” women! With Mother’s Day coming up, think about how you can turn your kids art into one of a kind keepsakes for the special mom’s in your life.

At Simply Spaced, this is what we are talking about folks, form meets function!

You know what else is special? When you give tangible form to a keepsake like this, you’ll have an easier time getting rid of the excess. It’s important to see and love the things we care about, and boxes of papers eaten by silverfish? Not so special.
